Anthony Kiedis with Larry Sloman: Scar Tissue - Book Review
8/10. As honest as they come, Anthony has had a fascinating, turbulent life!
Scar Tissue is the memoir of Red Hot Chili Peppers lead singer Anthony Kiedis. Released in 2004, written by Kiedis with Larry Sloman.
This autobiography is an honest, reflective account of a rock star’s crazy life, covering his unconventional upbringing and vivid characters from his fascinating, turbulent life.
It’s bleak and sad at times, as Kiedis has gone through drug addiction, recovery and relapse MANY times. He explains his problems in a frank and realistic way, he gets clean and does well – and then one day it all stops - just because. He provides no gas lighting or excuses as per the repertoire of many addicts.
Whilst it covers some grim topics, the book is also funny, and you hang on for the ride along with him. Anthony is a likeable character to read about, even after all his antics. The writing style flows, and he pulls you into his hectic rock and roll world.
I hope he found delving into his past a cathartic experience. From this quote I think he might have:
“When you start putting pen to paper, you see a side of your personal truth that doesn't otherwise reveal itself in conversation or thought.”
